What is the Peninsula Heron Project?
Similar to the guitars used for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, these will be uniquely painted herons and will be on display at various locations around Peninsula. These will then be auctioned off after the display period, which will coincide with the Cuyahoga Valley National Park 50th Commemoration.
Who are the primary sponsors of the project overall?
The Peninsula Heron Project is sponsored by the Peninsula Area Chamber of Commerce in cooperation with the Peninsula Foundation and Main Street Peninsula
What will the herons look like?
A cast will be made for a common, weather-resistant heron image suitable for display outdoors. Each will then be uniquely painted to depict a topic, such as the CVSR train, the towpath, the Cuyahoga River, and specific business characteristics. The topics will be determined through sponsorship and then will be designed and fulfilled by a local artist. There will be different themes and artists for each of the herons.
How many herons will there be?
This will depend on the sponsorship and funding which will start soon. Initially, we’re anticipating 20, though that number may vary.
When will the herons be displayed?
This will be displayed from May 2025 through September 2025, in conjunction the 50 year anniversary commemoration of the Cuyahoga Valley National Park.
What happens when after the display period?
Each of the herons will be auctioned off except for those previously committed to major donors.
How will the proceeds be used after the end of the project?
These will be shared between Peninsula Chamber of Commerce and Peninsula Foundation for re-investment in the Peninsula, OH community.
