About the Peninsula Heron Project
The purpose of the Peninsula Heron project is to attract visitors to the Village of Peninsula, the Cuyahoga Valley, and its near-by area businesses and organizations.
The artistic use of Great Blue Heron, seen throughout the valley, connects the natural beauty of the area with its historical past and reputation for the arts. This public arts project aims to increase civic participation and create a sense of vitality and a deeper sense of place.
Peninsula is a charming village in the heart of the Cuyahoga Valley National Park. Annually there are more than 2.9 million visitors to the National Park. And, more than 10,000 cars travel through Peninsula daily. Exposure to the Peninsula Herons will be significant and accessible to all.
The Peninsula Heron sculptures will be installed in public spaces from May through September 2025 to coincide with the 50th year Anniversary of the Cuyahoga Valley National Park. Each 5-foot-tall Heron sculpture will be painted by an artist from Northeast Ohio incorporating a scene of Peninsula historical or local interest. Up to 20 locations have been earmarked for display of a Heron sculpture.
